The D ogon are an ethnic group living in the central region of Mali , southwest of the bend of the Niger River. ​The Dogon are especially known for their religious traditions, mask dances, wood sculpture, and architecture.

The chairs have been hand carved by the Dogon people using wood
indigenous. Stools are a strictly personal item and are said to be
the seat of the soul of the owners.
